Hi John,
On this day, 9 years ago, President Barack Obama signed the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act (VAWA) of 2013 after a lengthy legislative battle.
These protections expired in 2019, and we must act now to reauthorize this crucial piece of legislation.
My colleagues and I in the House have been working hard for these last three years to reach an agreement and reauthorize this landmark bill. VAWA, since it was first signed into law in 1994, has provided essential protections to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. The Senate must move quickly to reauthorize these fundamental protections now.
Will you join me in signing this petition to get VAWA to President Biden's desk?

Last year I acted with my fellow House members to pass the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2021, with tremendous bipartisan support. Now it is up for a vote in the Senate.
VAWA remains a key legislative achievement that has improved federal, state, and local responses to crimes against victims of domestic abuse. But for the last three years, its reauthorization has not been passed by the Senate. As a result, survivors of abuse throughout the country have been put at risk because Washington refuses to act.
After reaching an agreement last month, Senate Democrats AND Republicans must act now to get this crucial piece of legislation to the President’s desk.
The Senate needs to take action. Join me by adding your name to this petition to call on the Senate to reauthorize VAWA immediately.
