Hi Friend,
International Women’s Day is tomorrow. You can still double the impact of your contribution, thanks to your fellow generous supporter of Population Connection. Make your gift here—and have twice the impact!
Your gift today supports our partnerships with amazing organizations like Lemur Love.
Operating in Madagascar, Lemur Love’s mission is to “Protect lemurs. Empower women. Further science.” The organization’s conservation agenda is both animal-centric and human-focused. They understand that human well-being and biodiversity are closely intertwined.
Lemur Love aims to improve local standards of living while preserving forests and their flora and fauna. The fifth-largest island in the world, Madagascar is home to 200,000+ known species, more than 80% unique to the island. But the Malagasy people must rely on the ecosystem to live, leading to environmental degradation and biodiversity loss from forest clearing, land conversion, and habitat alteration.
Roughly 4,600 people live in Efoetse, the nearest human settlement to Lemur Love’s primary lemur research site, Tsimanampesotse National Park (TNP). The village lacks daily necessities, such as running water, sanitation, and electricity. Efoetse experiences high food insecurity, with scarce local agricultural resources and expensive imported goods.
Lemur Love recently partnered with Efoetse villagers and other agencies to bring electricity to the village. More than 80% of Madagascar lacks electricity, so this coalition plans to bring electricity to Efoetse by implementing a solar grid and training older women as solar engineers.
We’re proud to support Lemur Love in their critical work. Your generous support this International Women’s Day will ensure that this and our other partnerships can continue. Please consider a gift of $20.00—and DOUBLE your impact, now through March 8th!
Thank you for your continued support of programs aimed at global population stabilization. We appreciate you!
