As the Vice Chair of the LGBTQ Equality Caucus and member of the Transgender Equality Task Force, I am horrified by the wave of anti-LGBQT+ and specifically anti-trans legislation sweeping the nation.

As a human, I am emboldened to do all that I can to protect, strengthen, and defend our LGBTQ+ neighbors, friends, family, and community.

I agree with President Biden that these unacceptable attacks by the Republican party must stop. Endangering trans children, their families, and the LGBTQ+ community as a whole for political points is unconscionable. We must all do better to keep transgender children and adults safe.

As an elected official I have an added responsibility here. Since taking office, I have hosted public events to address violence against transgender women of color and what we can do to make simply existing safe for all in our community. But it is on all of us to call out bigotry and hatred when we see it.

To the LGBTQ+ community here in PA: my solidarity goes further than just flying a trans equality flag outside of my office (which we do). In this horrific moment, I want to make it very clear my team and I are here to help if you ever feel your rights, freedoms, or safety are in danger. Never hesitate to reach out and we will share resources to help you and your family.
