Dear John,
Today voter ID laws disproportionately affect not only people of color, older citizens, younger adults, and people with disabilities, but also millions of women . In the U.S., at least 70% of women change their name when they marry. As a result, when women go to vote, many find that their name no longer matches the one on the voter rolls that they used when they first registered, putting them at significant risk of having an invalid ID when it comes time to vote .
As VoteRiders’ CEO and Executive Director, I along with Founder and President Kathleen Unger send a powerful message that this woman-founded and -led organization provides essential services to women across the country. Supporting our work at VoteRiders is a powerful way to ensure greater women’s political participation in the coming year and beyond.
At VoteRiders we help folks like Laura [[link removed]] , who needed assistance obtaining an ID, not only so she could exercise her right to vote, but also to secure employment and housing. We also help women like Ruby [[link removed]] , whose birth was never recorded, and others like Marge [[link removed]] , who was denied her right to vote in a primary election because her driver’s license didn’t have a photo.
As you may know, most contributions we receive come from grassroots donors chipping in what they can. Your support makes all the difference so we can preserve these voters’ very dignity – much as we are helping to preserve our very democracy.
DONATE NOW: [link removed]
The 2022 midterm elections are ALREADY underway, with many thousands of eligible voters in the first primary state of Texas already struggling to cast their ballots given the shifting rules regarding voter ID. We need your support today to ensure they don’t get left behind. Will you please make a $50 donation [[link removed]] so that no eligible voter will be turned away at the polls? The amount isn’t as critical as the donation itself — anything you can give now will be put to use right away.
Thank you sincerely, and happy Women’s History Month!
Lauren Kunis, CEO and Executive Director
