The event will also include a Q&A session and a recorded conversation with Congressman Bennie G. Thompson of Mississippi and SPLC President and CEO Margaret Huang about today’s climate of hate and extremism in the U.S. We’ll also take a deep dive into how legislation and policy can help address hate and extremism, in a conversation between SPLC Chief Policy Director LaShawn Warren and U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland.

The SPLC has published the Year in Hate & Extremism, an annual census and analysis of hate groups and extremist organizations, each year since 1990. We define a hate group as an organization that – based on its official statements or principles, the statements of its leaders, or its activities – has beliefs or practices that attack or malign an entire class of people, typically for their immutable characteristics. The FBI uses similar criteria in its definition of a hate crime.

We hope to see you Wednesday. Don’t forget to click here to RSVP!

In solidarity,

Your friends at the Southern Poverty Law Center
