John,

In recent years the cost of child care has risen by 1,000%, far outpacing
the price increase of things like housing or healthcare.

This has created a real problem in our economy and for our workforce—and
not just for parents. The high cost of childcare means many parents have
had to leave their jobs. That’s contributing to the worker shortage that
nearly all of us feel when we go out to eat or want to book an
appointment, and it's hurting businesses large and small.

Our country has never made investments in child care. While we invest in
nearly every other aspect of people's lives—education, health, and safety
to name a few—child care has been put on the backburner. As Katie says,
there’s no special interest group for child care.

Child care is the largest expense for many families with young kids. Katie
will continue to stand up to Republicans who have stood in the way of
strengthening our economy and lowering costs for families by blocking
legislation that would make child care more affordable.

Thanks for being on Team Porter,

KPHQ
