While many Americans today wouldn't recognize these names, our Founding Fathers admired and studied these heroes of the Roman Republic.

That's because many of our Founders looked at the heroes of the Roman Republic as models of civic virtue to emulate.

Likewise, they viewed the descent of Rome into tyranny and discord as a cautionary tale their new republican form of government was designed to address.
