Newly-elected Republican AG Jason Miyares is removing Virginia from a lawsuit that would require the government to finally pass the Equal Rights Amendment.

The ERA would outlaw discrimination on the basis of gender and has been stuck in Congress since 1982. After Virginia became the 38th and final state necessary to ratify the ERA, Dem AGs from Virginia, Illinois, and Nevada took to the courts in an effort to finally pass the ERA into law.

Thanks to Jason Miyares, that effort just took a major blow.

AG Miyares is the clearest example of what happens when Republican AGs take over and enact their radical agendas. Former Virginia Dem AG Mark Herring was a fierce advocate for equality and passing the ERA, and now he’s been replaced by a Republican AG seeking to undo as much progress as he can.
