John, I write to you devastated by the escalation of Russia’s war in Ukraine. Thousands of Ukrainian refugees fleeing from the bombs are crossing the borders right now to neighboring countries... Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary, and Moldova. Our CitizenGO campaigners in the region (Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia) have seen many mothers, grandmothers, teenagers, and small children, calling for help. They break into tears as they cross the border and part from their loved ones. Fathers have to stay to fight. The horror lived in their home country remains in their eyes. More than 2,000 civilians have been killed so far in the war. As Christians, we must pray for peace and liberty in Ukraine, and help those in need because of such a humanitarian emergency. I beg you to take action now! Please send a quick donation to support local Caritas organizations to help those suffering from the war in Ukraine and those fleeing the war in the surrounding countries, and to help CitizenGO multiply its efforts for peace and liberty:

Thank you, Gregory Mertz and the entire CitizenGO Team Here's the email we sent you earlier on this:
Dear John,
The unthinkable has happened. War has broken out in Europe. Russia attacked and invaded Ukraine. As you know, there have been battles across the country in recent days. No one feels safe. Kyiv and Kharkiv are under siege. Millions of Ukrainians have spent the last days and nights on the road in shelters, cellars, and hundreds of thousands fleeing. Meanwhile brave soldiers and citizens fight for Ukraine’s freedom. Many started with families, young children, or elderly parents, leaving everything behind. Meanwhile, guns crackle behind them, the sound of bombs is heard… The military assault has already resulted in a shocking number of deaths. This is a time when we need to help those who are suffering from this terrible war. CitizenGO immediately began mobilizing its international community, first through a prayer campaign and also a campaign demanding peace and safety. Then, we contacted trusted, local Caritas organizations that provide local humanitarian assistance to the people affected by the war. We know many of the men and women in this group, and they are faithful. We even have our own campaigners helping Caritas as volunteers in meeting the needs of vulnerable mothers and children escaping the war. Please send us a much needed donation to support local Caritas organizations to help those suffering from the war in Ukraine and those fleeing the war in the surrounding countries, and to help CitizenGO multiply its efforts for peace and freedom:

Some CitizenGO team members have good personal relationships with the local Caritas leaders, so we get first-hand information about their work: - Caritas organizations in the region have already launched quick aid programs, providing targeted and effective assistance to the most vulnerable..
- Caritas receives internal refugees in its centers in Ukraine in Dnipro, Poltava, Zaporizhia, Mukachevo, as well as in Khmelnitsky, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil and Lviv and also thousands of refugees in the neighboring countries
- Caritas groups also organize families who have opened their doors for displaced victims.
- And Caritas helps through several church institutions that have also opened for food distribution and shelter for refugees, mostly from Kiev.
- Our local Caritas source from Ukraine said that right now the prices are skyrocketing, so they are not sure how long they can provide food for the refugees. It should be noted that Caritas has been supporting the victims of the war in Eastern Ukraine since 2014. So, if anyone knows what they are doing and how to do it, it’s Caritas.
In the last eight years, however, almost all possible resources have been exhausted. The COVID-19 pandemic and the deteriorating economic situation have significantly increased poverty, especially in the east, where local people struggle to survive. We must now help get as much support for all of these Caritas organizations who are working on the ground to help the people of Ukraine who are in trouble or are fleeing the war. There is a saying: He who gives quickly gives twice. That is why I ask you to support the humanitarian work on the ground in Ukraine and in neighboring countries and to stand by those involved for peace and liberty today!

We all feel like we should do something, we all wish we could stop the war and keep Ukraine free from the Russian military invasion. We can’t do that, but we can do some other things. Here is what we can do, and what we need to do: - Let us pray for Ukraine, for peace but also for protection and safety.
- We call on world leaders to restore peace and order.
- Let us also support the humanitarian work now being done to help those living in war zones and those fleeing the war.
The escalation of the war could intensify in the next few days as the braves Ukraines desperately resist and fight up their freedom. It’s urgent to take action now. CitizenGO will transfer donations to local Caritas organizations as quickly as possible and will continue to stand up for peace and liberty around the world:
