They drive down your street every day -- and they're running on polluting fossil fuels when they could be running on clean electricity.
The U.S. Postal Service is starting to move ahead with a plan to spend up to $11.3 billion to replace most of its delivery fleet. The Postal Service has indicated it plans to spend that money on thousands of new gas-powered vehicles, which would be a major blow to our country's efforts to cut carbon emissions and achieve cleaner air and a healthier climate.[1]
We need to put a stop to this deal before it's done. The Environmental Protection Agency and White House Council on Environmental Quality have already urged the Postal Service to correct course on its plan -- and if enough citizens like you speak out for an all-electric Postal Service fleet, we can win. Tell the Board of Governors of the U.S. Postal Service: Put the $11 billion in new Postal Service funding toward electric vehicles, not dirty diesel ones.

Across the country, clean electric vehicles are hitting the road and helping reduce emissions from the transportation sector -- which is America's single biggest contributor to climate change.[2,3]
Electric mail trucks will make our communities and our air quality cleaner and healthier, while slashing fueling costs at the same time. And in fact, electrifying the Postal Service's fleet is a key element of the Biden administration's plan to go all-electric on its federal fleet of 600,000 cars and trucks and slash the government's carbon emissions by 65% by 2030.[4]
It makes no sense for the Postal Service to enact a plan that would lock in polluting, gas-powered vehicles for decades to come. You know it, I know it, the White House knows it -- but we need to stand together if we hope to convince the Postal Service to do the right thing. The Postal Service operates about 230,000 vehicles. It's one of the largest government fleets in the world, and spending $11 billion to keep it dependent on dirty fossil fuels would be a crucial lost opportunity in the fight to ensure cleaner air and a healthier planet for future generations.[5]
I'm sure I don't need to tell you about the consequences of failing to reduce transportation pollution. From the tens of thousands of lives cut short every year by dirty air, to the wildfires, hurricanes and floods that are made more severe and more destructive by global warming -- we don't need more evidence of the importance of slashing emissions.
We need action.
