NRDC Campaign Roundup - News. Wins. Actions. Delivered Monthly.
-----------------------------

We are appalled by the current conflict and suffering caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. We hope for safety and continued freedom for the people of Ukraine in the face of this humanitarian crisis, and call for an immediate end to Russia’s aggression.

Yet, while the nation is under attack, the fossil fuel industry is cynically exploiting this moment to push for more oil and gas drilling.

New pipelines and more drilling won’t help Ukraine. They will only entrench destructive fossil fuels and continue this endless cycle of suffering. Clean energy can help us break free. That’s why we need global climate action now.

Join with thousands of NRDC supporters who have weighed in urging President Biden and Congress to stop the fossil fuel industry’s exploitation of war in Ukraine to expand oil and gas drilling.

ACTION SPOTLIGHT

Tell the Biden Administration: No More Drilling in the Greater Chaco Region

For more than a century, the government has treated New Mexico’s Greater Chaco region as a dirty energy sacrifice zone, allowing oil and gas giants to overrun the area — which local Indigenous communities hold sacred — with oil wells and pipelines that have polluted the land, air, and water.

Submit a public comment in support of President Biden’s and the Interior Department’s plan to halt new oil and gas leasing around New Mexico’s Chaco Culture National Historical Park, a UNESCO world heritage site.

CAMPAIGN UPDATE

The U.S. Postal Service Had a Chance to Lead on Climate … And They Blew It

The Postal Service has put its final stamp of approval on an ill-conceived plan to spend over $11 billion purchasing a new fleet of almost entirely antiquated, gas-guzzling delivery trucks instead of investing in the electric vehicles (EVs) that we desperately need to fight the climate crisis.

As the U.S. government agency with the largest civilian fleet of vehicles — most of which will be on the roads for decades — USPS had an opportunity to lead on climate. Instead, their choice to buy thousands of new climate-busting, fossil fuel-powered trucks will drive more carbon pollution when we need climate action more than ever.

NRDC is fighting back against USPS’s disastrous plan using every tool at our disposal — including looking at going to court if that’s what it takes to get the agency to transition to EVs. Tens of thousands of NRDC activists like you sent messages to USPS imploring them to do the right thing — and you can be sure we’ll be calling on you again to act in the months ahead. Stay tuned.

Urge President Biden to End Offshore Drilling off our Coasts! In responding to a Louisiana court order, the Biden Administration chose to offer up 80 million acres of ocean for drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.
