This Week at the NYGOP

Dear Friend,

This past week, Republicans from all across New York gathered in Nassau County on Long Island to hold our 2022 NYGOP Statewide Nominating Convention. The excitement for our incredible Republican ticket was felt by all who attended. For the first time in 20 years, victory is possible. This is the strongest, most diverse ticket in our state's history. Our candidates each have unique stories and backgrounds, but they are all committed to one thing: saving our state.

Our next governor, Lee Zeldin, secured more than 85% of the vote from rank and file Republican committee members from every corner of New York. He and our candidate for lieutenant governor, 20 year veteran of the NYPD, Alison Esposito are going to lead our ticket to the greatest Republican comeback in 20 years.

We are also proud to have Joe Pinion, who would be the first African American U.S. Senator from New York in either party, as our candidate to take on Chuck Schumer. Joe represents everything that is great about America and will go to Washington to be a strong fighter against socialism and the radical left.

Corruption and crime is rampant in Albany and it's time we put law and order back into the Attorney General's office. We will do just that with the election of Michael Henry, who is our candidate for Attorney General.

Our candidate for Comptroller, global finance expert Paul Rodriguez, is the first Puerto Rican with a major party endorsement in 20 years. He will be a true watchdog for your hard-earned tax dollars and vigorously pursue Albany corruption.

Just like in 2021, we can't make the red wave happen without you! Now is the time to sign up to volunteer, share and promote our candidates on social media, and donate any amount you can spare. With your support, we will win on Election Day and finally restore common sense, freedom, and prosperity to New York.

New York Republicans back Zeldin as candidate for governor

New York Republicans on Tuesday endorsed the campaign of U.S. Rep. Lee Zeldin to win back the governor's office for the first time in nearly 20 years. But Zeldin, a congressman from Long Island, could still face a Republican primary this June and three of his rivals have vowed to take their case directly to GOP voters in the state. "We want to preserve your liberty, your individual freedom," Zeldin told GOP delegates at the state party's final day of their convention. "We are all in everywhere, taking nothing for granted." Zeldin victory's on Tuesday at the convention was the culmination of the first phase of his campaign that began nearly a year ago. Since then, he has locked in endorsements from nearly every Republican county leader in the state.

NY GOP forming Asian American Caucus to fill void left by Democrats

Seizing on an opportunity to appeal to New York’s Asian American community — which has been beset by targeted violence amid an overall crime spike under city and state Democrats — the state Republican Party is creating a new Asian caucus within its ranks. “We are officially announcing the creation of the NYGOP Asian Caucus. This is an incredible moment in our history,” said state GOP Chairman Nick Langworthy, officially announcing the faction’s formation Monday night at a dinner reception following Day 1 of the party’s nominating convention on Long Island. “We will stand with our Asian friends that have [had] crimes committed against them. They are such a critical part of the future of the Republican Party and we are going to lead the way right here in New York state to help get that done,” he added.

New York Republicans talk inclusion with a diverse slate at convention

There were plenty of familiar talking points repeated at what seemed like the top of every hour on the first day of the New York State Republican Committee’s convention, including “bail,” “taxes,” “Cuomo” and “consequences of one-party rule.” But there were other words that came up with similar frequency on Monday: “diversity,” “understanding” and “party of the people.” Within the first few hours of the GOP’s gathering on Long Island, a stand-out message from the red-white-and-blue bannered stage was that New York Republicans are not the monolithic party of exclusion their Democratic counterparts paint them as. And Republicans sought to offer a diverse slate of candidates heading into the statewide elections this fall. “The Republican Party deeply cares about the Latino community,” said comptroller candidate Paul Rodriguez, first in Spanish, then in English. “We may offer different solutions to the same problems, but our goal has always been the same: The welfare and best interest of all New Yorkers.”

Pataki, the last Republican to win statewide, gives his party guidance on how to win again

Once a political underdog, George Pataki was welcomed like a champion at his party’s state convention. “Twelve years of Republican rule!” GOP State Committee Chair Nick Langworthy said, introducing him. “Governor George Pataki!” Pataki is revered among New York Republicans as the last among them to win statewide office, doing so a generation ago in 2002 for a third term. He insisted Monday that GOP victories in New York are not part of a bygone era, that conditions are ripe now for the same kind of upset win he had when he toppled Mario Cuomo in 1994. “This is very much the same sense of enthusiasm and optimism and a belief that there’s a tremendous chance to win,” he told reporters. Pataki, who led the state in the aftermath of the 9/11 terror attacks, was known as a political moderate, moderate, particularly after his first term. Still, in a time of hyper-partisanship, he used his speech to pointedly attack Democrats.

Republican Joe Pinion secures GOP designation for historic bid against Schumer

The state Republican party designated former political news commentator Joe Pinion Monday to challenge Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer for his U.S. Senate seat in November. Pinion, a Yonkers native, gained the backing of New York’s Republican party at its convention on Long Island on Monday, with the hope that his vision for New York can successfully stake up against Schumer, who’s a 23-year Senate veteran and a staple of national Democratic politics. With the announcement, Pinion, 38, became the first Black man to run for U.S. Senate in the state, according to his campaign. “We are so proud that Joe Pinion has stepped forward to accept this historic nomination to become our next U.S. Senator," said New York Republican Committee Chairman Nick Langworthy. "His story is one of the American dream and just like he electrified our convention, he is going to electrify the voters of this state."
