Hi there,
What a week! From supporting economic development to celebrating our Veterans and introducing new legislation, I continued working hard this week in the Senate to tackle issues West Virginians care about. Click here or the image below to hear about a few highlights, and keep scrolling for more updates.
Welcome Home
I spent my Veterans Day in Charleston, honoring all branches of the military at the annual parade and at a ceremony at Haddad Riverfront Park.
After this event, I hosted several Vietnam veterans and presented them with ‘Welcome Home" pins. For the thousands of Vietnam veterans who never received the proper homecoming they deserved, my hope is that our ceremony felt like the closing of that chapter. The ‘Welcome Home’ pin is a small, special reminder that we do appreciate all that our veterans have sacrificed to secure the freedoms we enjoy every day. Investing in West Virginia
On Monday, I was honored to host U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Dr. John Fleming in West Virginia for a series of economic development announcements. We traveled to Putnam County where we announced eight projects totaling over $7 million. This funding will support a variety of projects, including water system infrastructure, roadway infrastructure, and a new job training program. Get all the details here.
Since being elected to the Senate, I’ve really put pressure on the Economic Development Administration (EDA) to make sure West Virginia is receiving our fair share of funding, and we are seeing real results. Click here or the image below to learn more about how I’ve worked to increase EDA funding for economic development projects in West Virginia by more than 400 percent:
