Executive actions are a tool for immediate relief, let’s encourage President Biden to use them. Indivisibles,
Two key threads ran through President Biden’s State of the Union address this week -- easing the lives of working class families and ensuring our country is set up to prosper long into the future. Whether looking at the war in Ukraine, cracking down on corporations that are price gouging basic necessities for families, or creating jobs for millions of Americans, these two themes were the underlying building blocks of President Biden’s view for our collective future.
We agree! But…how do we get there (and what can I do)?
We start by addressing the debt crisis overwhelming millions of Americans and doing everything possible to turn back the clock on climate change. The best part? There is a simple action, directly in the hands of the president, that could immediately jumpstart the effort to address these issues. It’s called executive action and here’s a deeper dive into what Executive Action means and how it works.
So, Let’s Go Joe!
Through executive action, the president could cancel large swaths of student loan debt with the stroke of a pen. He could take bold action and declare a national climate emergency to transition our country to a green, renewable energy future. He could use federal contracting and tax regulations to reverse Trump-era giveaways to corporations. And, he could address the rampant price gouging being performed by pharmaceutical companies directly impacting everyday Americans -- just to name a few.
How can you help?
By doing what Indivisibles do best -- pressuring our representatives through clear messages of support for a strategy of executive action with a new campaign we’re calling Let’s Go Joe! The first actions look like this:
- If you're represented by a Democrat (i.e. the ones President Biden is most likely to listen to): Call your senator(s) with the Democratic Senate script here or your House representative with the Democratic House script here and let them know you need them to encourage the president (Let’s Go Joe!) to take action.
- If you're represented by a Republican or you don’t have congressional representation: Use this script to advocate with the White House directly. Honestly, we know it’s not as effective as calling your own representative (which is why if you have Dem. representatives, you should call them!) but it does give the president a strong platform to show Republicans these policies are popular in their districts too.

This is the beginning of a new endeavor for Indivisible, but it is grounded in the same grassroots advocacy that has been the backbone of our movement from the beginning. When Indivisibles activate, we change the direction of America for the better. Thank you for continuing on this ride with us.
In solidarity,
Indivisible Team
