Dear John,

On Thursday I sent our huge army of activists a survey. I wanted to know how you members felt about some immigration issues in the headlines right now.

Thousands of you have already taken the survey. As the headline of this letter says, 99% of you feel very strongly that AMERICAN JOBS should be filled by AMERICANS! (And we appreciate that so many of you commented that you are glad that NumbersUSA is filling the job of fighting the efforts to increase foreign labor.)

Many Congressional leaders argue furiously that the way to solve high inflation rates is to import more cheap laborers. The latest big push to increase immigration comes via the "America COMPETES Act," which would flood our tech labor market with new tech workers from countries such as China and India.

Research shows that adding more workers will suppress the wages and job opportunities of Americans, including previous immigrants. But we wanted to know what YOU thought.

95% OF YOU thought that taxpayer-funded universities SHOULD NOT ACTIVELY RECRUIT foreign students. Instead, 99% of you agreed with the statement that "America's technology industries and educational system should educate and recruit AMERICA'S OWN WORKERS." 89% strongly agreed. Less than 2% disagreed with the notion that importing foreign workers suppresses wages for American workers.

Al from Florida explained in a comment with his survey how high-tech visas ruined his career for decades, and why one of his responses has been to promote NumbersUSA with others:

"From March 15, 2001 to Jan 21, 2011, I could not find a permanent job in IT (software developer) in Pittsburgh. I found a site that listed all the H-1B's [type of work visa used to bring in foreign programmers] in Pittsburgh and I believe there to be 10,000.... That is why I signed up with NumbersUSA. I tell people about you all the time. You have stopped most of the bad immigration laws and amnesties. Thank you."

Thank you, Al. The truth is, we've stopped every major amnesty in the 21st century. John,we need your help to win this fight. Here was another comment on a survey:

"In my opinion, Number USA is an extremely effective organization because they focus on what is important. They analyze the numbers and look at the facts. It is not an organization that focuses on the color of people's skin. They focus on the American Worker and the effects illegal immigration has on Americans who need work as well as the negative effects illegal immigration has on tax paying citizens, our communities and our environment."

Like tens of thousands of NumbersUSA members, Richard identifies as Hispanic. The Rasmussen polling organization recently polled Hispanic likely voters around America. Their research shows HISPANICS ARE JUST AS LIKELY AS NON-HISPANICS to want deep cuts in immigration, to want to mandate E-Verify for every employer, and to drastically limit chain migration.
