Trump and EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler are trying to ELIMINATE safeguards for oil and gas drilling. Submit a public comment to the EPA now and help stop dangerous methane pollution »
Friend — Trump's EPA is rushing to give over 850,000 existing oil and gas wells a free pass to spew millions of tons of methane pollution into our air — effectively speeding up climate change.
Wheeler just revealed a plan to weaken methane standards and allow Big Polluters to regulate themselves — no doubt leading to the release of more toxic air pollution. Methane is a potent greenhouse gas, and Wheeler and Trump's reckless rollback of critical methane protections will only exacerbate the devastation caused by the climate crisis.
And the deathly impacts will be felt today: If Wheeler and Trump succeed in gutting these commonsense protections, they'll open the door for more methane pollution from oil and gas drilling that directly risks the health and safety of families and communities living nearby.
As communities of color are more likely to live near oil and gas sites, they will be hit hardest by this pollution — we cannot let this environmental racism continue.
But there's a tool in the regulatory toolbox to fight back against this blatant sellout to Big Polluters.
The EPA is accepting public comments on Wheeler's toxic plan, which means we have an opportunity to make sure the record shows that the people do NOT support it. If enough of us create a rallying cry now, we can force them to back off.
We need to get 10,000 comments into the EPA before November 25 — will you add your name now?
DEADLINE November 25: We must limit climate-warming methane pollution. But Trump wants to make it easier for Big Polluters to dump even more of it into our air. Stand up and submit a comment »
The methane standards Trump and Wheeler are attacking were put in place to protect communities living near oil and gas development from harmful pollution.
Make no mistake: Rolling back methane standards is a blatant handout to Big Polluters at the expense of our families' health, our climate, and our communities.
Yet Trump and Wheeler want to let the fox guard the hen house by allowing the oil and gas industry to "voluntarily" reduce their methane pollution — even though we've seen time and time again that Big Polluters will not reduce methane leaks without government intervention.
Trump and his dirty cabinet have worked relentlessly to undo the progress we've made to advance the fight to solve the climate crisis and clean up our air. With this rollback, the U.S. oil and gas industry will release 13 million metric tons of methane from its operations each year — nearly 60% more than currently estimated by the EPA. We are running out of time to make an impact in the climate fight — communities across the globe simply cannot withstand this setback.
We cannot stand by as they prioritize polluter profits over our health and environment. Now we need to echo that message and make sure that Wheeler understands just how unpopular it is to expose our communities to more pollution and speed up climate change. We need to gather 10,000 signatures before the comment period closes on 11/25 — can you speak out to protect these critical pollution standards, friend?
