At Tuesday night’s State of the Union address, Rep. Lauren Boebert interrupted President Biden.
Friends,
At Tuesday night’s State of the Union address, Rep. Lauren Boebert interrupted President Biden.
This was not just another Republican outburst that my House colleagues and I have become accustomed to. This interruption came as President Biden was urging Congress to act on legislation aiding veterans who were exposed to cancer-causing toxins during their service. Notably, the President’s own son, Army National Guard Major Beau Biden, passed away from brain cancer in 2015.
I was present at the State of the Union, and I could only watch in disgust as Rep. Boebert tried to interrupt this powerful moment. It has become increasingly clear to me that the GOP is lacking even the most basic regard for common decency.
My heart went out to President Biden at that moment.
And friends, I am proud to share that on Thursday morning, following the State of the Union and President’s Biden’s request, the Democratic House successfully passed a bill to expand health care coverage for veterans exposed to these toxic chemicals.
This bill is projected to help up to 3.5 million veterans — but 174 Republican members still voted no.
While the GOP is staging inappropriate outbursts to drive their campaign fundraising, Democrats are actually delivering on the issues that matter most to our veterans and their families.
