The latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report is an all-hands-on-deck alarm about the future of the planet – and our future on it. Leaders around the world are at a pivotal crossroads on climate.

As the stability of the climate rapidly deteriorates and the impacts multiply from climate disasters — including fires, droughts, hurricanes and floods — we have a small window to avert the worst-case scenarios of climate chaos. But it will require swift, bold action and directly taking on the fossil fuel industry.

Our new report ([link removed]) demonstrates that we don’t have the luxury of letting the markets decide whether or not to phase out fossil fuels. History shows that even as renewable energy has increased, it has not significantly curbed fossil fuel production. In order to avert the worst-case climate scenario, we need to unequivocally confront climate change’s main driver: fossil fuels.

Our research proves that building renewable energy infrastructure is not by itself going to save the day on climate change. We also need bold action to end fossil fuels before they end us. Only tough policies that quickly end fossil fuel use will be successful in the effort to fight climate change.

That’s why Food & Water Watch is working to:
-Pressure President Biden to use his authority to stop fossil fuel extraction on federal lands and prevent the construction of new fossil fuel infrastructure by denying the needed federal permits.
-Pressure Congress to ban fracking everywhere, with a plan that also lays out a transition off fossil fuels for the workers and communities that are dependent on the industry.

It’s time to raise our voices as loudly as possible and tell President Biden and other political leaders: Enough is enough – the time for climate action is now!
