WHERE: Park at the State Office Building Parking Garage for free. Walk across the street to the Burton M. Cross Office Building. Enter through the side door (facing the street). Note: There is a ramp for those who require it. Enter through the first door to your left — this is the room where we’ll be gathering! It is at the back of the Cross Café.
For those more comfortable staying outside, you may show your support by bringing a homemade sign (instructions here) and standing between the Maine State House and Cross Building.
WHEN: Wednesday, March 9 from 8 AM – 12 PM. Please arrive at 8 AM for the group welcome and training. You’re not required to stay until noon, but you should try to be available for a couple of hours since you may not see your lawmakers immediately.
WHO: All are encouraged to attend! Masks are no longer required in the State House, but we ask that all Lobby Day participants please still wear a mask. Please make your own, best decision about attending to protect your health and others.
WHAT: The Lobby Day is an opportunity to talk to your state representative and senator about legislation that would help support clean water, economic justice, and equality for the tribes in Maine. At 8:15 AM there will be a briefing on the three bills, a training on lobbying, and you will receive handouts to use as talking points and to give to your lawmakers. You may be grouped with other people from your district. Once in the State House, constituents can get help finding their lawmakers by asking one of the folks in our group wearing an orange sticker for help.
Please wear blue! This will help make us a visually unified presence in the State House. We will also hand out Wabanaki Alliance stickers for everyone to wear.
Remember to register here if you plan to attend.
I hope to see you on Wednesday!
