Earlier this month, the Trump administration formally notified the United Nations that the U.S. is withdrawing from the Paris Climate Agreement. This is a colossal mistake that not only hurts our planet and relationships with other countries, but this also hurts our economy.
200 countries came together in 2015 to sign this agreement and make national pledges to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change.
Now we are reversing our policy and going back on an agreement we made.
Climate change is unlike any other challenge we’ve faced and we can no longer deny what’s happening. Now is the time for the United States to lead on this issue.
We must develop a plan for the U.S. to meet our commitment from the Paris agreement to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, which are among the highest in the world, move towards clean energy solutions and secure our future with jobs in renewable energy.
Our future depends on how we move forward to address climate change now, and that starts with rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement and keeping our commitments.
