Our Nation’s Leaders are Unified

Things have been moving quickly this week in the news, with the situation on the ground in Ukraine changing moment to moment. Meanwhile, a pleasant surprise amid the horror:  In Washington, the two parties are coming together with a strong response.

Senators Joe Manchin and Lisa Murkowski, a bipartisan pair, are leading the growing movement on Capitol Hill to cut off Russian oil imports to the U.S. in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.  On the House side, Problem Solvers Co-chairs Brian Fitzpatrick and Josh Gottheimer are spearheading companion legislation.

We talk a lot about two-party solutions – but we’re almost always talking about domestic policy. This week, we’ve seen a rapid move toward bipartisan legislation on Russian oil that could cripple Vladimir Putin’s war machine. One of our best weapons in this battle is our unity.

On Tuesday night, following President Biden’s State of the Union address, Representatives Fitzpatrick and Gottheimer offered a rare bipartisan perspective on such an occasion, stressing the areas where leaders and policymakers are coming together. It’s a sign to Putin and the world that we are first and foremost Americans, and we rise together to meet each challenge. Watch the full video here.

As our congressional allies work to slow Putin down, we at No Labels salute Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for his inspirational courage and resolve. He and the Ukrainian people are standing up to the onslaught with dignity and defiance.

Today, we are asking you to sign a petition in support of the Ukrainian people and consider a contribution – not to us, but to one of the worthy groups helping Ukrainians on the ground. These three organizations are all doing vital work, right now.

We are proud of the way our nation’s leaders have unified in their condemnation of the brutal attack on a democratic nation. We must always stand up to tyranny -- and stand on the side of those nations who celebrate and protect freedom and liberty.
