Now that the impeachment inquiry has reached the public hearing phase of the investigations, it's vital that more and more Americans are aware of what is unfolding in the House.
When the impeachment hearings into President Nixon were taking place, PBS aired the Watergate hearings in full; giving millions of public TV viewers an opportunity to learn about the Watergate break-in, the cover-up, payoffs, and dirty tricks unfolded before their eyes. They heard testimony from presidential advisors, the attorney general, former spies, and bagmen.
Now? PBS is only agreeing to broadcast the coverage live, as it happens, and is refusing to rebroadcast the hearings during the primetime viewing hours in the evening.
The American people deserve to hear and see the full case against Donald Trump firsthand – because they have a right to participate in the impeachment process and make an informed decision for themselves. And as the impeachment inquiry continues, support for holding Trump accountable for his attempts to pressure Ukraine into investigating his political rivals continues to climb.
While PBS has agreed to broadcast the hearings live and share them online, they must also show them on their flagship channels in prime time, just as they did during the Nixon impeachment hearings – so EVERY American has the opportunity to follow along as the impeachment proceedings unfold.
We have a right to hear the truth – without all the Republican attempts to distort, distract, and disrupt.
Call on PBS to uphold their duty to inform the public and rebroadcast the impeachment hearings>>
