March is Women’s History Month. This is a time to celebrate both the legacy of our foremothers and the promise of our daughters.
This year’s theme - providing healing and hope - really strikes a chord with me. As a physician and mother of six, I have spent most of my life giving comfort and care to others.
This is work that I have been honored to perform, but caregiving is often overlooked and relegated to women. In my travels across Wisconsin, I have been so inspired by the resilience of ordinary, caregiving, women and moved by their struggles.
Women’s work is work, and it must be recognized and respected. Let’s come together this month, and all year long, to embrace - and create - women’s history.
Sincerely,
Gillian Battino
