Monday night, the Senate held an opening vote on the Women’s Health Protection Act — a historic bill would protect access to abortion even if the Supreme Court overrules Roe v. Wade. It was swiftly blocked using the obstructionist filibuster.
All Americans should have the fundamental right to shape when, if and how they choose to have a family. As long as the Senate allows the filibuster to exist — the policies women and families need to protect reproductive health care will never be passed.

It is clear that we must abolish the filibuster so that we can finally pass the Women’s Health Protection Act and so many other bills that have already passed in the House, but have been blocked in the Senate by the filibuster. So many of these bills would grant immediate and much-needed relief for working families in our country.
The hundreds of bills in state legislatures attacking abortion rights should be setting off blaring alarms for those in Congress. That’s why Ro is doing his best to ensure something as anti-democratic as the filibuster doesn’t continue to stand in the way.
