During his State of the Union address on Tuesday night, President Biden condemned the attacks on trans youth from state legislatures and called for lawmakers to pass the Equality Act. The Trevor Project is thankful for this message of support.

As we track nearly 200 anti-LGBTQ bills across the country, it’s clear our work affirming and protecting LGBTQ young people everywhere continues to be critical.

Basic freedoms and rights are denied to LGBTQ people in many states and across the country. If the Equality Act becomes law, it would finally guarantee federal protections for LGBTQ people. This would mean a ban on anti-LGBTQ discrimination nationwide in employment, housing, public accommodations, and more.
