The Cecil Corbin-Mark Fellowship for Environmental Justice Leadership
Apply Today!

We are proud to announce that WE ACT is now accepting applicants for the inaugural year of the Cecil Corbin-Mark Fellowship for Environmental Justice Leadership. Two applicants will be selected to work on environmental justice policy issues, and gain experience in community-based policy advocacy, legislative and regulatory drafting, policy research, and community engagement. NY State Utility Debt Roundtable
Help Us Cancel Utility Debt

Trouble with your utility bill? Join us on Monday, March 7 at 6:00 PM for the Energy Democracy Alliance’s Utility Debt Roundtable. We will hear testimony from members of our community and then have a panel discussion on how we can cancel utility debt in New York State – and work to ensure that we never find ourselves buried in utility debt again. NY State Climate Justice Advocacy Day
Help Us Get the Funding for Climate Justice

Want to do something about climate change? Join us on Tuesday, March 8 for the NY Renews Climate Justice Advocacy Day! We’ll travel in-person to Albany to ask elected officials to invest the $15 billion needed to fully fund the Climate Leadership & Community Protection Act ([link removed]) so that we can effectively reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution, improve energy efficiency and security, build renewable energy like solar and wind, and ensure that we get our fair share of the jobs this will create. WE ACT Is Part of Congressional Visit to NYC for the Environmental Justice For All Act

The U.S. House Committee on Oversight and the House Committee on Natural Resources will be conducting a series of site visits in Queens and Brooklyn on Friday, March 11 to identify community concerns and opportunities for the Environmental Justice for All Act. Sonal Jessel will be speaking to members of Congress at the kickoff event at NYCHA’s Queensbridge Houses. Dana Johnson will then participate in an environmental justice press conference event at that same location. The delegation will head over to Long Island City for a site visit at the Ravenswood Generating Station, which will be followed by an environmental justice tour of Sunset Park. After a Natural Resources Public Input Forum on the Environmental Justice for All Act on Saturday, March 12, Charles Callaway will lead the delegation on an environmental justice tour of Harlem.

United Nations' Commission on the Status of Women
WE ACT Participates in Climate Justice & Women's Health Events

Sophia Huda and Sonal Jessel are participating on a virtual National Congress of Neighborhood Women panel at 4:00 PM ET on Monday, March 14. The panel – The Neighborhood: Climate and Women’s Health – focuses on how neighborhood and grassroots community women in marginalized and low-income urban communities are collaborating to ensure their participation in creating sound and fair environmental health and protection policies and practices, and is being held in parallel with the United Nations’ Commission on the Status of Women. The Orchestra of St. Luke's Free Concerts

The Orchestra of St. Luke’s will be performing a series of free concerts in all five boroughs next week as part of Earth Works: Music for Our Planet, classical works about our terrestrial world and its survival by Latin Grammy winner Gabriela Lena Frank. WE ACT staff will make special appearances at the Manhattan and Brooklyn concerts – on Friday, March 11 and Sunday, March 13, respectively – as will staff from the Climate Museum and South Bronx Unite, who will be at the Bronx concert on Thursday, March 10. Annual Earth Day 5K Fun Run
Save the Date

Mark your calendar and stretch your legs! Our annual Earth Day 5K fundraiser will be on Sunday, May 1. Like much of our lives right now, it will be both virtual and in-person. Participants can run or walk five kilometers (3.1 miles) at a time and place of their choosing beginning on Earth Day, Friday, April 22. And on Sunday, May 1, we will have an in-person run and/or walk on Randall’s Island for those who want to participate in-person. And we hope you can join us to celebrate Earth Day, help raise funds for WE ACT, and run or walk for a healthier, greener community!
