Dear John,

Last month I emailed you about a study which found that, contrary to their insistence otherwise, the federal government has actually raised taxes on the vast majority of middle-class families.

Since then, the Prime Minister has come under attack from all sides, for many different reasons.

It’s not hard to see why: this week alone the Fraser Institute released two studies on completely different topics, but both of which ended up confirming what poor federal leadership we currently have.

On Tuesday we released a study looking at pre-COVID federal spending.

It turns out Canada could have been much better prepared for the pandemic, had the rate of federal program spending growth been tied to inflation or growth.

Instead, the Liberal government increased program spending by 36%; ran five consecutive deficits; and imprudently added $112 billion to the federal debt!

Can you imagine how much better Canada could have dealt with COVID with an extra $112 billion?

Then on Thursday we released a legal analysis of the government’s Net-Zero Emissions Accountability Act.

The government claims the Act "enshrines in legislation the Government of Canada’s commitment to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, and provides a framework of accountability and transparency to deliver on it."

But our analysis found that the Act is not legally binding and contains no costed plan!

The findings of these two unrelated studies paint a picture of our current federal government: great at spending money and making feel-good promises, but a complete lack of focus on actually strengthening our country’s economy.

John, these are just two studies from one week. As you know, each week the Fraser Institute produces this type of quality, relevant, peer-reviewed research – and delivers it to Canadians for free.

We give people the facts and numbers they need to hold their leaders accountable.

If you can, please consider making a donation [[link removed][campaign_id]] so that we can continue doing this important research. We don’t accept government funding, we rely entirely on supporters like you!

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,
