Please honor Ethan and to fight to save your children & grandchildren
John, President Biden said it in the State of the Union: “These laws don’t infringe on the Second Amendment. They save lives.”
He’s talking about life-saving child safety laws — and that’s why I’m reaching out to you today. My name is Kristin Song and my beautiful 15-year-old boy, Ethan, was killed with an unsecured, easily accessible handgun in our neighbor’s home.
If the gun owner took just seconds to secure his handgun, my beautiful boy would be a freshman in college. Yet the sad, tragic reality is this: There’s NO federal safe gun storage law to prevent what killed my son, and so many others. But it doesn’t have to be this way. No family should have to suffer the pain and grief my family experienced — especially when there are solutions before Congress right now, like “Ethan’s Law.”
Ethan’s Law couldn’t be more important right now, John.
Each day in America, eight children and teens are killed by “family fire.” It’s a shooting that involves an unsecured gun found in the home that results in death or injury. And over the COVID-19 pandemic, we witnessed record-breaking gun sales. Now, there are more guns in the home than ever before. More guns in the home, especially amongst first-time gun owners, is a recipe for disaster. It risks senseless, preventable bloodshed in places where children and teens, like my son, should feel safe.
Thank you for honoring Ethan’s life with action, John. He’ll forever be in my heart as a loving, empathetic teen, who loved to play lacrosse and never failed to put a smile on those around him.
