President Biden has officially announced his SCOTUS pick - Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. This is an exciting and historic moment, and we’re glad to see that the President has fulfilled his campaign promise to fill a Supreme Court seat with a Black woman. We’ve been impressed and inspired to learn more about the Judge, and believe Biden is making a smart decision to stand behind her with this nomination.

However, it did not take long for the Republican Party and right-wing media to express their overt racism and sexism. Despite Judge Jackson’s extraordinary qualifications, Fox News Host Tucker Carlson stated: “It might be time for Joe Biden to let us know what Ketanji Brown Jackson’s LSAT score was. How did she do on the LSATs? … It would seem like Americans in a democracy have a right to know.”

This coming from the same news host who once said that criticisms of Brett Kavanaugh and the power systems that hold him up were a form of "genocide" against white people.

According to The Guardian, Judge Jackson went to Harvard Law School; served as a supervising editor for the Harvard Law Review; clerked for three judges, including Justice Breyer; spent 15 years as a public defender; eight years as a trial court judge in the US district court in DC; was vice-chair of the US Sentencing Commission, and has issued several notable rulings.

This is why Her Bold Move exists. Because misogyny, double standards, and, yes, racism never fail to reveal themselves even when the most qualified women dare to shatter a new glass ceiling.

Female candidates, especially female candidates of color, need far more support to counteract the sexism, double standards, and vitriol they're up against.
