GLAAD last week released its 15th annual Where We Are On TV report,
which found that the number of LGBTQ series regulars on primetime
broadcast shows hit an-all-time high at 10.2 percent.
GLAAD and United Talent Agency hosted a panel to unveil and discuss
the findings. At the event, GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis
stated, "LGBTQ people are everywhere: in our post offices, grocery
stories, agencies; they are in every family. We need to be in every
story." Entertainment must reflect the world in which we live."
That’s why GLAAD called on the entertainment industry to have 20
percent of series regular characters on primetime scripted broadcast
series be LGBTQ by 2025. The organization also called on all platforms
to have half of all LGBTQ characters be people of color within the
next two years.

GLAAD fires back after Trump administration announces new rule
that will allow adoption agencies to block gay and lesbian couples
from adopting children on the basis of “religious freedom”
When the Trump administration granted taxpayer-funded
adoption agencies the ability to forbid children from being placed
in homes of LGBTQ couples based on “religious beliefs,” GLAAD called
out the administration with a statement from President and CEO Sarah
Kate Ellis. "The Trump Administration has once again demonstrated how
they prefer to prioritize the gross work of anti-LGBTQ activists over
the safety and well-being of our children," she said. The move marked
the 130th attack on the LGBTQ community, which GLAAD tracks through
the Trump
Accountability Project.

GLAAD calls out anti-LGBTQ activists for using anti-trans rhetoric
to sway voters in key 2019 political elections
GLAAD released a set of information last week to showcase a
disturbing trend by anti-LGBTQ activists who have used anti-trans
rhetoric and messaging to influence this year’s contentious elections
across the country. The anti-trans ads reached Americans through many
mediums and appear to have targeted electoral contests in Kentucky,
Louisiana, Mississippi and Virginia. “The Trump Administration’s
incessant attacks on transgender Americans have effectively spread
across the country in 2019 state elections, and the public should
expect this tactic to be used during critical elections next year
too,” said GLAAD’s President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis. “The
assertions and misinformation in these ads have been debunked time and
again, but this ‘top-down’ strategy by anti-LGBTQ activists will only
be defeated when the community bands together and fights back.” You
