White Supremacist Propaganda Remained at Historic Levels in 2021
White supremacist propaganda distribution remained at historic levels across the United States in 2021, with a total 4,851 cases of racist, antisemitic and other hateful messages reported by ADL. The latest data comes amid a surge in antisemitic hate fliering in January and February targeting at least 15 states nationwide.


In the Washington, D.C. region, Virginia was the second highest and Maryland was the sixth highest among all states with hateful propaganda reported.

How Platforms Rate on Hate: Measuring Antisemitism and Adequacy of Enforcement Across Reddit and Twitter

How much hate exists online, and how large is its reach? Is it possible to independently evaluate the claims tech companies make about the amount of hate on their platforms and how effectively they are addressing it? To answer these questions, ADL Center for Technology and Society (CTS) is building the Online Hate Index (OHI), a machine learning system that detects hate targeting marginalized groups on online platforms. This report presents the inaugural findings of the OHI’s antisemitism classifier, a new artificial intelligence tool that harnesses the rich knowledge of ADL’s antisemitism experts to that of trained volunteers from the Jewish community who have experienced
antisemitism.

In Case You Missed It: Fighting Hate From Home | Fight Antisemitic & White Supremacist Propaganda in Your Community


On March 3, ADL hosted a special edition of the Fighting Hate from Home webinar series to discuss alarming incidents of antisemitic and white supremacist propaganda from coast to coast. Extremist groups spread fear and hate, promoting themselves, attacking their perceived enemies and using current events to “legitimize” their hateful views.


Oren Segal, VP of the ADL Center on Extremism (COE), spoke with a COE investigative researcher and a leader from one of ADL’s regional offices to share insights on some of the hateful fliers, banners and videos. Additionally, the panelists discussed our new study of extremist propaganda and gave a behind-the-scenes look at how the "Goyim Defense League" (GDL) operates and how the COE assisted law enforcement with some recent arrests.
