In his first State of the Union address, President Biden confirmed his support for expanding funding in home- and community-based services, reaffirming his commitment to the largest federal investment in these essential services yet. You may have heard on the news that the Build Back Better Act is dead – but this is all political theater, designed to distract us into giving up the fight. The President’s statement reinforced what we already know– while the bill will ultimately have a different name, the Senate is still negotiating, and the vital funding for HCBS is still included! Even as political circumstances change, HCBS remains a priority in the new bill, thanks to your calls.

Thank you for your persistent, unyielding advocacy. Every phone call, email, and tweet made a difference. It is thanks to your dogged work that this funding is still on the table even as the bill itself goes through countless changes. With so much happening behind the scenes, the next steps are unclear. Let’s take the chance to rest, knowing we’ll be ready to rise on a moment’s notice to fight for the full funding -- no cut corners, no further reduction in this down payment, but a true expansion of access to community living. Once we have a clearer picture of what kind of Congressional action will be most effective, we’ll update you with a new action alert.

We thank you for your tireless efforts. Even when Congress is slow to act on the issues that matter to people with disabilities, our grassroots advocates like you are demanding they do the right thing. You keep this work going!
