Dear John,

We’re running out of time to pass U.S. Representative John Larson’s (CT-01) “Social Security 2100: A Sacred Trust Act” that will go a long way to boost monthly benefits, protect beneficiaries from the impact of soaring inflation and strengthen this vital program for years to come.

Please sign our Emergency Petition today urging your member of Congress to support this critical bill that would counter America’s retirement crisis by enhancing benefits and strengthening Social Security.

Here are just a few of the important provisions in the bill:

  • Increases benefits across the board for all Social Security beneficiaries;
  • Improves the Social Security Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA), so it reflects the inflation actually experienced by seniors;
  • Improves benefits for widows and widowers from two-income households;
  • Provides caregiver credits to ensure that people (mostly women) are not penalized in retirement for taking time out of the workforce to care for children or other dependents;
  • Ensures millionaires and billionaires pay their fair share into Social Security by applying FICA to earnings above $400,000 (currently high-income earners stop paying into Social Security when they’ve reached the $147,000 income threshold).

The National Committee is expecting the “Social Security 2100: A Sacred Trust Act” (H.R. 5723) to get marked up in the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Social Security this month. And we’re urging Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to put this bill — which already has 200 cosponsors — on the floor for a vote!

During this election year, every single lawmaker should be forced to go on the record about whether they support this critical bill. It's time to bring Social Security into the 21st century and ensure seniors are not spending their golden years struggling to get by. So please sign our Urgent Petition today and demand immediate action on this much-needed Social Security bill.

Sincerely,

Max Richtman
President & CEO
