Dear Friend,,

Margaret Mead once said: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."

That felt especially true recently, when the environmental community rose up to stand united against SB 2508. A late-filed amendment that stripped the bill of some of the worst provisions can almost certainly be attributed to forceful opposition from the public. We have many of you to thank for that effort — but we can't let it end there.

Even amended, there are still several major concerns favoring corporate interests like Big Sugar over that of the people written into SB 2508 that remain intact.

If enacted by the Legislature, this bill would still:

  • Enshrine outdated water-shortage rules into state law, preserving the status quo that benefits Big Sugar at the expense of the environment.
  • Allow utility companies to pay to expedite wetland “dredge and fill” permit reviews.
  • Give Florida's next Agriculture Commissioner new power to spend millions of dollars buying land.

There are four lawmakers who wield the most power to influence the end result of SB 2508. It is critical that they continue to hear public opposition to this bill. As a VoteWater supporter, we know we can count on you to help us kill this bad bill.

We've made it easy. Use the button below to connect directly with Senate President Wilton Simpson, Senator Ben Albritton, Representative Chris Sprowls, and Representative Josie Tomkow.

There's no time to waste. The legislative session is scheduled to end March 11. Join us today in fighting the corrupt forces that put corporate greed above clean water in Florida.
