The Human Cost of Russia’s War on Ukraine

By: Michael McGonigle

As Russian forces continue their illegal onslaught against Ukraine, casualties on both sides are beginning to mount.

Shocking images of the battle in and around Kyiv have begun to emerge as the people and armed forces of Ukraine fight for their very survival.

But unlike wars of recent memory, like Iraq and Afghanistan, where American forces did their best to avoid civilian casualties, it appears the citizens of Kyiv are not being afforded the same consideration by Russian troops.

Early Friday, The Kyiv Independent reported that Russian rockets had struck a kindergarten in the town of Okhtyrka, resulting in casualties and severe injuries, including among children.

Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba,

tweeted , “Today’s Russian attacks on a kindergarten and an orphanage are war crimes and violations of the Rome Statute. Together with the General Prosecutor’s Office we are collecting this and other facts, which we will immediately send to the Hague. Responsibility is inevitable.”

University Orders Christian Grad Student to have ‘No Contact’ with Students Who Disagree with Her Viewpoint
By: Paul Batura

Maggie DeJong, in her third year of a master’s program for art therapy counseling at Southern Illinois University (SIU), was shocked recently to receive official emails from the school’s administration ordering her to have “no contact” with three other graduate students in her program, either on or off campus.

What was this Christian student guilty of? What would prompt the university to issue the educational equivalent of a restraining order against her?

According to her attorneys with Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), the only thing DeJong was told in emails from the university is that “upon information and belief that interactions between yourself [and the other students] would not be welcome or appropriate at this time.”

DeJong was given no prior notice of the complaints against her nor was she given an opportunity to defend herself against whatever accusations have been lodged against her.

In an interview with The Daily Citizen, Tyson Langhofer, ADF Senior Counsel and Director of the Center for Academic Freedom, told us that Maggie has been singled out at times by her professors and fellow students for criticism of her Christian beliefs, even telling her that her beliefs are wrong, insensitive and contrary to the values of the program in which she is enrolled.

Update: Pro-Life Senators Block Radical Abortion Bill in the US Senate

By: Zachary Mettler

On February 28, pro-life senators voted down a radical abortion bill in the US Senate. The effort to move the legislation forward predictably failed along party lines by a vote of 46-48. One pro-life Democrat joined Senate Republicans to block the extreme measure.

In light of the United States Supreme Court’s review of Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban, pro-abortion forces have been obsessed with pushing an aggressive abortion agenda in Congress.

As previously reported, if passed, HR 3755 would be the most extreme abortion law in the history of the United States.

What makes HR 3755 – the “Abortion on Demand Until Birth Act” – so radical is that not only would it legalize abortion under federal law, it would also invalidate all existing state laws restricting abortion and make it unlawful to pass any new laws limiting abortion.

This legislation would, for example, legalize late-term abortion. It would legalize partial-birth abortion. It would legalize abortion based on race, sex and disability discrimination.

Thankfully, there were enough pro-life senators to block this terrible legislation from moving forward.

New Study: Even Failed Efforts to Leave Homosexuality Are Not Harmful
[link removed]

By: Jeff Johnston

A new study has demonstrated that even failed “sexual orientation change efforts” (SOCE) are not associated with causing behavioral harms.

The study, from Rev. D. Paul Sullins, Ph.D., a research associate professor of sociology with the Catholic University of America, found, “The SOCE group was statistically indistinguishable from the non-SOCE group on any measure of harm.”

LGBT activists and their allies have trumpeted for years the belief that homosexuality is a normal variation of human sexuality and that attempting to follow a biblical sexual ethic – and leave homosexuality – is “damaging” and “does not work.”

This study directly contradicts the idea that efforts to leave homosexuality are harmful.

We reached out to Father Sullins, who told us about his research, “Following Non-efficacious Sexual Orientation Change Efforts: A Retrospective Study of United States Sexual Minority Adults, 2016–2018.”

In an email exchange, he told The Daily Citizen,

“The original research I recently published compared a population sample of LGB persons who had undergone SOCE with those who hadn’t, (available at Frontiers in Psychology) to see if the former were currently more likely to manifest greater psychological distress.”

The Real War on Women: Word ‘Woman’ Removed from Radical Pro-Abortion Bill
By: Zachary Mettler

On February 28, the U.S. Senate voted on the “Woman’s Health Protection Act of 2021.”

The bill (H.R. 3755) was the most extreme, radical pro-abortion piece of legislation ever considered by the United States Congress, and thankfully, it fell far short of gaining the 60 votes needed to move forward to a final vote.

The motion failed 46-48, with three Democrats and three Republicans not voting on the measure, and Democrat Senator Joe Manchin joining all other Republicans in opposition to the bill.

The act would have prohibited “states from creating any new law to restrict abortion access” and would have invalidated “hundreds of state abortion laws already on the books across the country.”

Some of the laws the bill would have invalidated (among others) include:

-Laws prohibiting the gruesome procedure called partial-birth abortion, where a preborn baby is half-delivered prior to being killed.

-Protections for babies born alive after a failed abortion attempt.

-Parental consent requirements.

-Bans on late-term abortion.
