Dear ,

Eight years from now, in 2030, I hope we all live in a country where at least 30% of our lands and waters are protected by law. If we can accomplish that, not only would our land and water benefit, but also our climate, wildlife, and our public health.

Part of protecting our lands and waters includes designating more monuments and park sites, like Avi Kwa Ame. This sacred place is a rare, intact stretch of the East Mojave Desert between Mojave National Preserve in California and Lake Mead National Recreation Area in Nevada. Despite its spiritual and cultural significance, it is not yet a national monument—we can change that.

Designating new national monuments is one of the most powerful ways that the administration can make real progress toward their goal of protecting 30% of our lands and waters by 2030. Urge the Department of Interior to move immediately to make Avi Kwa Ame a monument for all.

Avi Kwa Ame is part of a corridor that provides critical habitat for countless desert species, including threatened desert tortoises and migratory birds. Permanently protecting these lands as a national monument will provide the resources native plants and wildlife will need to adapt to a changing climate.

Please urge the Department of Interior to protect Avi Kwa Ame and other vulnerable areas as national monuments across the country.

Thank you for protecting our lands, water, and climate,

Neal Desai
