Dear neighbor,
Like many of you, I am horrified by Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine. What we are witnessing is an unprovoked, unjustified attack on a sovereign nation by Vladimir Putin. I’m pleased the international community has come together on an unprecedented level to push back on Russian aggression and stand with the Ukrainian people, whose spirit and determination in defense of their nation inspires the world.
I support the robust actions President Biden has taken so far in this conflict, including imposing aggressive economic sanctions on Russia and providing military and other aid to Ukraine. In Congress, I helped lead a bipartisan letter this week calling on the President to protect the more than 30,000 Ukrainian nationals currently in the United States. Our letter urges the President to grant Ukrainians Temporary Protected Status so they can’t be forced to return to a nation likely to be mired in prolonged armed conflict.
President Biden spoke about the crisis in Ukraine and more during his first State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress this week. I was honored to attend and listen as he laid out a vision to build a better America for the people, from bringing down prices and reducing costs on American families to providing better mental health care, supporting our veterans, and beating cancer as we know it. He also highlighted our nation’s tremendous progress over the past year, not only with managing the COVID-19 pandemic, but also with the creation of approximately 7 million new jobs and the fastest economic growth in decades.
The State of the Union is also a great chance for Members of Congress to highlight their local heroes. I was honored to have Elizabeth Forer, CEO and Executive Director of Venice Family Clinic, as my virtual guest. Ms. Forer and her team were on the front lines of the pandemic and worked tirelessly to ensure vulnerable populations in our community were cared for. I got the chance to hear more about her fantastic work during a Facebook live event. In case you missed it, you can watch our full conversation here.

COVID-19 Updates
As we enter into a new phase of the pandemic, I’m pleased with how far we’ve come in the fight against COVID-19. The CDC announced new guidelines this week allowing most Americans to unmask indoors, depending on their community’s transmission level.
In LA County, the indoor mask mandate is expected to be lifted on Friday, March 4th, according to the county’s health director. For more information on masking requirements in LA County, please click here. For schools, LA Public Health will align masking measures with the state and shift to strongly recommending indoor masking requirements at child care sites and K-12 schools beginning March 12th.
More good news: President Biden announced this week that even if you already ordered your free COVID tests, you can order more from www.covidtests.gov starting next week.
As we continue to face challenging times, I am optimistic about our nation’s future. Each day, I am incredibly honored to serve California’s 33rd District in Congress.
