Banning books has become a centerpiece of the GOP's latest attempt at fomenting a culture war, and it's a near-dystopian example of the type of authoritarianism the party has come to embrace.

Dear MoveOn member,

Across the country, book bans have risen dramatically over the past year, led by Republican politicians using America's children as their pawns to win elections by inflaming a culture war intent on stopping kids from learning about race, sexual orientation, gender identity, different cultures, or even just an unbiased history of our country.

Banning books has become a centerpiece of the GOP's latest attempt at fomenting a culture war, and it's a near-dystopian example of the type of authoritarianism the party has come to embrace.

We will not allow Republicans to control and stifle the education of our children or attempt to stall the essential work of creating a more equitable, just society that embraces our diversity, which is why MoveOn has launched a full-scale campaign to stop book bans, bans on the teaching of race in America, and other attempts by the right wing to take over our schools.

John, we want to offer you a unique way to show your support for this work by ordering a limited-edition "Warning: May Contain Banned Books" tote bag so you can share the message when you visit the library, school, or even the grocery store!

These tote bags are union-made in the United States, and you can order one by clicking here—but act fast: We have a very limited quantity and these are sure to sell out!

Since they have no real legislative agenda or plans to actually help govern our nation, Republicans have gone back to their favorite tactic: riling up their base with a culture war.

School boards and state governments controlled by far-right extremists are banning books.1

Florida is moving forward a "Don't Say Gay" bill endorsed by Governor Ron DeSantis that would ban all discussion of gender and sexuality in schools across the board—and allow teachers to be sued if they violate the law.2

And, most frightening of all, Texas Governor Greg Abbott just used his power to direct state agencies to launch child abuse investigations against parents who provide gender-affirming health care to their kids.3

It is absolutely despicable that a party which claims to center "family values" has decided to use children as pawns in a political game.

We cannot, and will not, let them get away with it.

Help let the GOP know that you won't stand for their tyrannical efforts by ordering your "Warning: May Contain Banned Books" tote back and carrying it proudly!

Thanks for all you do.
