Friends -- Whatever their views on Israel, there can be no excuse for raising millions for candidates who threaten our shared democratic future.

Friends --

AIPAC’s new PAC just announced its first slate of midterm endorsements. It includes over 35 Republicans who voted to overturn the presidential election results after the January 6 insurrection.

The list includes Rep. Jim Jordan, who has been called to testify over his involvement in organizing the January 6 riot. Just last month, Jordan supported Donald Trump’s suggestion that Democratic campaign staffers be executed for treason, saying it was “right on target.”

Friends -- Whatever their view on Israel, there can be no excuse for raising millions of dollars for candidates who threaten our democratic future.

In recent years, AIPAC has run attack ads painting Democrats as terrorist sympathizers and fought against President Obama’s Iran deal. They continue to lobby lawmakers against any meaningful US action to deter settler violence, settlement expansion or discriminatory evictions. Now, they’re committing to financially support dozens of Republicans who voted to throw out our election results.

Together, we must show that AIPAC does not represent our community. We must diminish their influence on Capitol Hill, fight for democratic freedoms and make supporting candidates who undermine democracy a disqualifying red line.

At J Street, we’re proud to lead the fight for democratic freedoms for Israelis and Palestinians -- and right here at home.

It’s why we announced our “Democracy Pledge” last year, calling on all Jewish and pro-Israel organizations to join together in a public commitment to refuse to support any candidate who voted against certifying the results of the 2020 election or publicly supported the “Big Lie” that Donald Trump won the election.

After AIPAC refused to take the pledge, I expected this to be bad -- but not this bad. More than half of the Republican candidates AIPAC has just endorsed voted against the certification of the 2020 presidential election results.

We must not let this pass unnoticed.

Together, we must make clear that AIPAC’s support for these candidates endangers American democracy and undermines the democratic freedoms of the millions of American Jews and pro-Israel Americans they claim to represent.

And together, we will continue to make clear that their efforts to defend the occupation and block opposition to the settlement movement undermines the democratic freedoms of Israelis and Palestinians as well -- just as it undermines the pro-Israel, pro-peace vision that the majority of Jewish Americans hold.

As we go toe to toe with AIPAC and press the importance of fighting for our values and our future, we’d deeply appreciate your grassroots support.

J Street is the political home for pro-Israel, pro-peace Americans who want Israel to be secure, democratic and the national home of the Jewish people. Working in American politics and the Jewish community, we advocate policies that advance shared US and Israeli interests as well as Jewish and democratic values, leading to a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
