This week, we honored our nation's veterans and thanked them for their service. It’s because of those who are willing to lay down their lives to preserve the freedoms that we enjoy that we live in the greatest nation on earth.
I also released a new video highlighting my work with President Trump, VA Secretary Wilkie, and my colleagues to deliver results for North Carolina veterans.
We have made landmark reforms to improve health care for veterans, expand career and educational opportunities, and pursue justice for the victims of toxic water contamination at Camp Lejeune.
As a member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, I have advocated on behalf of veterans to lead efforts to reform the VA to deliver more timely, quality, and accessible health care for veterans. Working with President Trump, I helped lead the passage of the MISSION Act, landmark legislation that puts health care decisions back in the hands of veterans.
I continue to prioritize constituent services to assist North Carolina’s veterans when dealing with a federal agency. Since January 2015, my office has closed more than 6,000 cases for North Carolina veterans on a wide range of issues, from helping secure appointments at the VA to resolving pending disability claims.
Recently, it was reported that an American flag was stolen during the funeral service of Hugh Hunt, a 97-year-old World War II prisoner of war veteran. After I saw the story, I proudly sent the family a flag that flew over the U.S Capitol, in addition to two certificates and a hand-written note to Hunt’s family. Watch the story here:
“They called and said Senator Thom Tillis wanted to do something in honor of Hugh, in honor of all of this,” said Carol Meade, the sister of Hugh Hunt. ”And it just shocked us because we had never heard anything like that before.”
Our nation has an obligation to fulfill the promises to the brave men and women who have defended our freedoms, and one of the greatest honors I have as North Carolina’s senator is offering constituent services to our veterans. My staff and I always try to move heaven and earth to assist any veteran having issues with a federal agency, and I am proud we’ve closed thousands of cases on behalf of North Carolina veterans.
Thank you for reading my e-newsletter, I will continue to work hard to represent all North Carolinians in the Senate and deliver results. If you or someone you know is having trouble with the VA or any federal agency, please don't hesitate to contact my office.
