Today, I filed an amendment calling on the Florida Retirement System to divest our $300 million dollar investment in Russian state-owned assets in solidarity with the free-people of Ukraine. It was ruled out of order, and then the Republican majority blocked my motion to waive the rules given the importance of the situation.

I am at a complete loss on this one, friends. I don't want our State's money, or my own money for that matter, being used to prop up a dictator who has invaded a peaceful neighbor, destabilized Europe and the global order, and is actively killing civilians with shelling of residential neighborhoods.

I stand with the people of Ukraine against this Russian invasion. I oppose Putin and I'm willing to put my $$$ where my mouth is. I wish I could have gotten my colleagues to stand with me.

There is still time to turn up the pressure. Help me share this far and wide: Click here to e-mail the Senate President and ask that he join me in standing in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and against Russian aggression.

It's estimated that Florida holds approximately $300 million in Russian assets. My amendment would have been specific to Russian state-owned assets, and those owned by the oligarchs or members of the Council of Ministers.

Surely, if Ukraine and arm their people to fight the Russians, we can afford to join the free people of the world in financially sanctioning their invader.
