Dear John,
I’ve got some great news to report.
Representatives Carolyn Maloney (NY-12) and Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) just joined the Congressional Freethought Caucus, the group of secular champions in Congress who are advancing the values we hold dear.
For both Rep. Maloney and Rep. Gomez, a constituent and member of our community - someone just like yourself - reached out to their office and invited them to join the caucus. Sometimes an ask is all it takes.
We want Representatives Maloney and Gomez to understand that when they stand up to protect our nation against a rising tide of Christian Nationalists, we have their back.
Please, take one minute to send this quick thanks to both Representatives Carolyn Maloney and Jimmy Gomez for joining the Congressional Freethought Caucus. I will personally make sure your message is delivered directly to their office. >> [link removed]
Founded in 2018 by Representative Jared Huffman (CA-2) and Representative Jamie Raskin (MD-8) with encouragement and assistance from the Center for Freethought Equality, the Congressional Freethought Caucus is a growing and important group within Congress. As more Members join, it signals that atheists and humanists are a growing power in our nation.
The caucus has four important objectives:
1. Promotes public policy formed on the basis of reason, science, and moral values.
2. Protect the secular character of our government by adhering to the strict Constitutional principle of the separation of church and state.
3. Oppose discrimination against atheists, agnostics, humanists, seekers, religious and nonreligious persons, and champion the value of freedom of thought and conscience worldwide.
4. Provide a forum for members of Congress to discuss their moral frameworks, ethical values, and personal religious journeys.
A member does not need to be nonreligious to join, they just need to be committed to secular governance.
Will you take a minute to send your thanks to these two new members of the Congressional Freethought Caucus? >> [link removed]
Your personal thanks will encourage and embolden them to stand up for the values important to the humanist community.
