John,
I want to tell you about our work with Jessica Cisneros. We’ve been with
Jessica since 2019 and we’ll be with her every step of the way towards her
May 24th runoff election against anti-choice corporate Democrat Henry
Cuellar.
In early 2019, Justice Democrats announced our intention to primary
Cuellar because of his conservative voting record on immigration, climate
change, reproductive rights, unions, and much more. We hired organizers
and put a full page ad in the Laredo Morning Times in order to find the
right candidate. Then, we found Jessica.
We helped Jessica build and launch her very first campaign for Congress in
2019. This is Jessica holding her hometown newspaper after launching in
2019:

Jessica was our first endorsed candidate after we helped Alexandria
Ocasio-Cortez win her groundbreaking primary against the Democratic
establishment. Jessica is an immigration attorney and community advocate
running unapologetically on Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, canceling
student debt, and protecting abortion rights. She is the kind of leader we
need, unlike the corporate-backed, scandal-ridden, conservative Cuellar.
Justice Democrats made calls to voters, sent texts, organized our
neighbors, and more for Jessica. We’ve raised more than $115,000 for
Jessica this election cycle from thousands of grassroots donors. And now
we have to build it all up again for the runoff.
I have to say, this isn’t going to be easy. The odds were stacked against
us in this primary, going up against a 17-year incumbent with backing from
Wall Street, Big Oil, Republican mega-donors, and corporate PACs. Now, we
have to restart Jessica’s fundraising all over again. It’s going to take a
huge boost from our supporters to power Jessica to victory.
I know we can do this because there’s a movement behind Jessica. AOC,
Bernie, Elizabeth Warren, Working Families Party, Sunrise Movement, and
the list goes on of allies that are with us and Jessica through this
fight. Here’s Jessica speaking at a get out the vote rally just a few
weeks ago with AOC, Greg Casar, and the people of South Texas:

John, this is
going to be a tough runoff, but we’re used to tough fights.
