Did you know that heavy-duty diesel trucks account for nearly a quarter of transportation-related carbon emissions in the United States?

So if we’re going to systematically reduce our carbon footprint, we MUST recognize the impact of diesel-powered commercial trucks.

We’ve come such a long way over the years — especially here in California — to electrify passenger vehicles and make our transportation sector greener.

But diesel trucks are regulated entirely separately from cars. The emission standards for these vehicles are significantly lower and therefore allow much more environmental damage to be inflicted.

We are currently in a race to reduce our carbon emissions before irreparable damage is done to our environment.

The truth is, this is a climate justice issue.

Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color experience a disproportionate amount of toxic air pollution from diesel-powered commercial vehicles.

In fact, these neighborhoods are exposed to 28% more nitrous pollution than the average white neighborhood. And unless we immediately move to electrify these vehicles, they will continue to poison entire communities with chronic and potentially life-threatening medical conditions.

The petition we’re asking you to sign today urges the EPA and the Biden Administration to address this crisis from the federal level, and start implementing the changes we need to protect all of us from air pollution.
