Dear Friends and Supporters,
On Saturday, November 9th, Pacific Research Institute held its 8th Annual Baroness Thatcher Gala Dinner at the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel & Spa in Newport Beach, California. I was delighted that so many friends of PRI were able to join us as we celebrated the Institute's 40th anniversary.
We were most pleased to present PRI's 2019 Baroness Thatcher Liberty Award to the Honorable Christopher Cox, former Orange County Congressman and Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman, for his commitment to liberty and the principles of Baroness Margaret Thatcher.
Gala attendees heard from our keynote speaker, Peter Thiel, the successful entrepreneur and venture capitalist. Mr. Thiel spoke candidly about the debate over free speech and the regulation of big tech companies. Thiel also critiqued the 2020 presidential contenders and the current status of the higher education system. He also shared his concerns about the role of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, or AI, and automation.
Thiel is a champion for many of the ideas PRI stands behind: personal freedom, liberty, and free markets among them, and we were grateful that he shared his insights with us. Below are a few photos from the Gala.
