Friend – Texas is implementing some of the most aggressive anti-transgender youth health care restrictions in the country. These restrictions will prevent transgender children from receiving mental health and gender affirming care and put their health at risk.
Texas AG Ken Paxton is arguing that gender-affirming health care for trans kids is a form of “child abuse,” despite the fact that major medical organizations including the American Medical Association, American Psychiatric Association and American Academy of Pediatrics are all supportive of this sort of age-appropriate care.
In his argument, AG Paxton compared health care for transgender youth to “the opioid crisis,” arguing without a basis in fact that gender affirming care could result in “tragic harms” to youth. This sort of language is dehumanizing and dangerous for the hundreds of thousands of trans kids. We cannot afford to have people like Ken Paxton in positions of power; it puts too many vulnerable people at risk.
