John,
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is devastating and heartbreaking. It is nothing less than an attack on democracy itself by Russia—one that threatens to grow into a wider conflict. This is an incredibly scary and tense moment.
The United States and many other countries have moved swiftly to sanction Russia, freeze the assets of Vladimir Putin and hundreds of members of his inner circle, and provide aid to Ukraine.
This is heartening, but as an individual, it’s easy to feel helpless.
That’s why we wanted to offer a few concrete ways you can help. These humanitarian organizations working to support Ukrainians could use your support right now:
-
World Central Kitchen is serving thousands of meals to Ukrainians who have fled to Poland and other neighboring countries, as well as working with restaurants in Ukraine to give hot meals to anyone in need.
-
Voices of Children has been providing psychosocial support to children affected by conflict in Ukraine since 2015, and is now providing emergency psychological support and assisting in the evacuation process.
-
Sunflower of Peace is providing medical and humanitarian aid, including first aid supplies for paramedics and doctors in Ukraine.
We’ll have more to say in the coming days—but for now, I hope you’ll consider contributing in whatever way you’re able, whether monetarily or by sharing with a few friends.
The news over the last week has highlighted just how precious democracy is—how fragile, how hard-won, and how ready we must be to defend it. We’ve never been more committed to the fight for democracy.
Thank you,
Noah Bookbinder
