Washington Post | Russia takes Kherson government building in siege of Ukraine's port cities
Russian troops have seized a key government building in the Black Sea port of Kherson, a Ukrainian governor said Thursday, as Moscow tightened its grip on Ukraine's southern coastline, slashing access to shipping hubs.
Russian state media said Russian forces have taken Kherson, a city of nearly 300,000 — a claim that Ukrainian defense officials deny. Heavy fighting is underway, but "the city is not under Russian control," Defense Ministry spokeswoman Liudmyla Dolhonovska told The Post. "They use it as a temporary base for units transfer."
