Across The U.K. This weekend

National Day of Action

Just some of the 'headline' facts on the Cost of Living Crisis:

*Wage increases for private sector is at 4.2% (2.6% in public sector) but inflation is 7.25% and rising.
*Gas bills are going up by 54%, so nearly £700 increase for the average household.
*National Insurance is going up by 1.25%
*Earlier this year, Shell announced a whopping £12 billion in profits!
British Gas profits up by 44%.

After 12 years of austerity:

*More than 1 in 5 of the U.K. population are in poverty (that's 22% or 14.5 million people).
*Almost 1 in 3 children in the U.K. are living in poverty.

Other Countries are not passing on the increases in the same way:

*France is capping bills at 4%
*Portugal is freezing prices
*Denmark is is covering 80% of excess bills
*Norway has a permanent windfall tax on energy companies.

The government does not have to pass on such high energy increases, instead they could:

*Freezes energy prices
*Impose a windfall tax
*Increases wages and benefits
*Invest in a low carbon renewable energy system that is run for the benefit of people

So it's crucial we resist and we fight back!
