Dear John,
The lies came swarming into Eve’s (not her real name) life when she was just a young teen… and she thought they would solve her problems.
She was depressed—and considering what she was battling—that was understandable. For years, she’d been bullied, couldn’t relate to other girls and found herself identifying more with males in the movies she watched. She heard the lie that “becoming a male” would fix everything—and she bought it.
When she was 15, she publicly identified as a boy.
Then she made an even more tragic choice—she tried to change her body. She started taking testosterone and had her breasts surgically removed.
Now, a few years later, Eve is shattered. She is one of thousands of young people who are sharing their stories of misery and regret. They’re called “detransitioners”—young men and women whose lives have been wrecked by transgender experimentation—and are now rejecting the damaging lies.
But as Eve laments, much of that damage can’t be undone. “I can't stop thinking about how different my life could have been,” she recently said. “I've got the voice of a man. I used to love singing... now I can't finish a song without crying."
She has an Adam’s apple, a beard and heavy body hair. And two big scars on her chest. “I wonder what would've happened if I hadn't changed my name and identity,” she says with intense regret. “I don't see how it could get better from here.”
Sadly, there are thousands of American girls right now who are hearing the same lies and making the same devastating choices as Eve. They are spurred on and encouraged by Hollywood, the media and teachers’ unions—plus groups like Planned Parenthood, which prey on teen girls and profit from testosterone sales to those kids.
It’s wrong. It shouldn’t be allowed.
That’s why we launched the Help Not Harm campaign—to expose the lies and to protect kids from dangerous hormones and transgender surgeries.
Two years ago, we drafted legislation to do just that. And last year, Arkansas became the first state to protect minors from dangerous transgender experimentation—led by a Family Policy Foundation® Statesmen Academy™ alumnus, state Rep. Robin Lundstrum, who sponsored and shepherded it to passage.
As you read this, several more states are considering this legislation, and it's already advancing in Ohio and Oklahoma. That's a good start for this legislative session.
But it’s vital that these protections begin to sweep the nation. Here’s why:
- 80-95% of kids will naturally outgrow their transgender feelings by adulthood if given the chance.1
- Transgender surgery is unethical mutilation. To allow it on a child is a travesty.
- Cross-sex hormones can cause irreversible damage, often including sterility.2
- Quality of life isn’t helped by transgender surgery or hormones. In fact, those who get them are 20 times more likely to commit suicide than their peers.3
The good news is that we’re making progress, but we need your committed help to ramp up these efforts in state after state around the country. When you give to support the Help Not Harm campaign, here’s what you are doing:
- Educating Americans on the danger of transgender ideology to kids.
- Equipping our network of Statesmen and other state allies around the nation.
- Mobilizing citizens in key states where there are opportunities to protect kids.
- Standing up against the transgender agenda in left-leaning states.
- Holding politicians’ feet to the fire in the upcoming elections.
Together, we can expose the Left’s lies—educating Americans and helping them make their voices heard to their elected leaders!
But most of all, when you join with Family Policy Alliance, it is no exaggeration to say that you are saving the lives of young people—just like Eve. On their behalf, I say thank you.
For the least of these,
Craig DeRoche President & CEO
P.S. The transgender agenda in our society is enormous. But the progress in exposing the lies and pushing back is very real. Will you help us keep the momentum going with your most generous gift possible today? Thank you for making this work possible!
